What is Juvéderm™?

Juvéderm™ is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. A hyaluronic acid molecule can hold up to 1000 times its own mass in water, making Juvéderm™ perfect for adding volume and filling out depressions in the skin. A local anaesthetic (lidocaine) is also contained within the Juvéderm™ solution to make the treatment more comfortable.

How does Juvéderm™ work?

The transparent Juvéderm™ gel is injected with a syringe into the mid, to deep dermis of your face depending on the type used and based on the results you desire. The dermis is the subsurface skin layer that contains connective tissue, nerve endings, sweat and oil glands, and blood vessels.
Juvéderm™ improves your appearance by binding with the water molecules present in your skin and lifts by adding volume to the wrinkles and folds in the treatment area. After six to nine months, the biocompatible compound is naturally absorbed into the body.

About the Juvéderm™ procedure

As with all dermal fillers, Juvéderm™ is injected into the treatment area with an extremely fine needle. A local anaesthetic minimises any discomfort. You won't need any pre-treatment allergy testing because Juvéderm™ doesn't contain any animal-derived allergy-causing ingredients. Juvéderm™ is completely biocompatible, biodegradable and natural.

Will I look better straight away?

The effect is instant, so you will see a natural revival of the skin without any obvious changes. Friends will notice and you will attract positive comments like, "It's knocked years off you" and "you look so healthy" as opposed to "what have you had done?"

Are there side effects?

Side effects tend to be minor and are typical for any kind of injectable filler. They include swelling of the skin around the injection site (inflammation), redness (erythema), bruising (which may be increased if you're taking blood thinners (anti-coagulants) like aspirin, bumps, and skin irritation.
